ABOUT THE PAL COURSE
The firearm safety course we offer is required to obtain your firearm Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) in Canada. The course is designed by the RCMP and covers all basic aspects of gun safety and handling, including:
• Understanding the basic parts and functions of rifles and shotguns
• Types of firearms and ammunition
• Safe handling, loading, storage, and transportation of firearms
• Responsibilities of a firearm owner
• Routine firearm servicing techniques
• Proper range procedures
• How to identify issues with your firearm and what to do when they occur
Our PAL course is taught by a certified instructor and is accredited by the Alberta Hunter Education Instructors Association (AHEIA) . The course is 8 hours, followed by a written and practical exam. We offer one-day courses and two-part half-day courses.
ABOUT THE RPAL COURSE
After you have taken and passed your general firearm safety course, the Restricted Firearm Safety Course is required to obtain your Restricted Possession and Acquisition License (RPAL) for the purchase of restricted rifles and handguns. This course is a follow up to our PAL course and covers:
• Understanding the basic parts and functions of handguns and restricted rifles
• Restrictions of use for handguns in Canada
• Safely handling and storing restricted firearms
• Acceptable uses for restricted firearms
• How to inquire about Canadian restricted vs. banned firearms
The RPAL course is 6 hours, followed by a written and practical exam. This course is taught as a one-day course but can be broken into two half-day courses if needed.
